Tuk Tuk Safari Sri Lanka showed support for Truyen Tin Orphanage (TTO) on Saturday 21st November 2015. Owners Tim and Mick, along with Jimal and Chindika, attended the fourth annual charity event held at Original Sin restaurant in Singapore.
The event brought together 150 guests and raised approximately SGD $50,000 that will go directly to Truyen Tin Orphanage. Donations were raised by attendees bidding (auction style) on luxury prizes and holidays that had been donated for the cause.
Truyen Tin Orphanage is a not-for-profit organisation based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The orphanage relies solely on donations and financial contributions to feed, clothe, educate and provide suitable accommodation for its children. Run by Ms Cu, the orphanage is currently home to 55 children.
Over the years, donations from these Singapore events have gone towards purchasing a bus as well as building a technology room for the children.
Whilst being strong supporters of Truyen Tin Orphanage in Vietnam, Tuk Tuk Safari also want to also encourage tourism to support the Sri Lankan economy and local families.
“We know its not much, but we gave away 200 day tour trips for Tuk Tuk Safari. We want to try to encourage people to book a holiday and come and experience the magic that is Sri Lanka,” Mick said.
“Sri Lanka is one of the most amazing countries that I have ever been to. The landscape is so rugged, the food is amazing and the people are just so kind,” he continued.
“We hope that a number of our friends and colleagues in Singapore make the effort to get here. It was great to see so much support for TTO; it really is humbling to see so many give so generously for such a worthwhile cause.”
